Dedicated to preserving the history of the Susquehanna & Tidewater Canal, Susquehanna Museum offers guided tours of the restored 1840s lock house which stands on what was once the canal's southern terminus. Constructed between 1836 and 1840, the canal provided a much needed link for moving freight from central Pennsylvania to Philadelphia and Baltimore through an intricate system of lift locks, some of which can still be seen today. The museum offers insight into the the process of "locking through" a canal boat as well as look at the history of the city of Havre de Grace through exhibits and living history events. Located on the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay, at the mouth of the Susquehanna River, the museum lies just minutes from the picturesque Concord Point Lighthouse.
Open Thur. - Mon. 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. year round.
Free. Donations welcome.
